Lenovo Legion 5 In Box Content

When you open this box, the first thing you’ll see is this huge brick. And even on the topic of capacity, it has a 300W charger.

Generally, even a gaming laptop has 240W and a normal one has 160W. This is 300W. My Goodness. Okay, That’s why the brick is so big.

Lenovo Legion 5 Design

Nice design. These are, basically, inlets and vents on the side here. I love this design. That’s the Legion logo. It has an aluminum build. which looks really stunning.

Lenovo Legion 5 Ports

on the back, you see ports, I like that. And there are plenty of them. There are 4 USB ports, an RJ45, and a Kensington Lock. On the left-hand side, there is a USB type-C port & a 3.5mm jack.

On the right-hand side, there is another USB type-A port and a physical button which I think is for the webcam.

So, you can completely shut off the webcam. Not bad. Probably the most ports I’ve ever seen on a laptop. So, that’s good.

Lenovo Legion 5 Weight

The weight. I think it should be 1.7kg?  it’s a gaming laptop so it’s definitely on the heavier side. This series also has a Slim variant & a Pro variant. This is the normal variant, Pro is on top of this, and Slim is lower than this.

Let’s check. 1.7kg definitely. Definitely. 2437g. it’s a 2.5kg laptop. And why is it heavy? Because it has so many things in it.

Lenovo Legion 5 Build Quality

This is a kind of future-proof laptop because you can increase the storage capacity as well as RAM. I’ve said it is a gaming laptop but if you’re a creator, a video editor, or a student and you do heavy work, you can do that easily.

By the way, I like that you can flatten the screen to 180°.

Lenovo Legion 5 Specification

There are different variants too. Talking about the specification, there is Slim, Pro and this one. All of them have Ryzen 5 & Ryzen 7 5000 series variants. About RAM, the base variant is 16GB RAM, so that is good.

There is an extra slot so you can expand it, too. And if I talk about the graphics card. That’s the most important thing in a gaming laptop. The RTX 3050 is available in the base variant and the top variant has RTX 3070.

This one had RTX 3060 with 6GB RAM. The topmost has 8GB graphics RAM. Our base variant is based on Ryzen 7. It comes under Rs. 1 Lakh, i.e. Rs. 98,990.

So, the configuration is Ryzen 7 5800, 16GB RAM, and finally, RTX 3050 with 4GB video RAM. this processor has an advantage. It has got 8 cores and 16 threads, so multitasking and gaming have the benefit.

Lenovo Legion 5 Display

Talking about the display, the Slim and the one we have, have a 15.6” screen whereas the Pro variant has a 16” screen. Slim and normal have FHD and Pro has a QHD display.

The display that you get in all of them is every gamer’s dream. It has a 165Hz fast refresh rate. But if you’re a creator, you get 100% sRGB so color accuracy is also present. And if you consume multimedia, it supports Dolby Vision. So, video viewing is excellent.

Even when you see the display, you see that the bezels are thin, it looks like a modern display.

Storage - Talking about the storage, in the 512GB base variant, you can get the higher one too.

Lenovo Legion 5 Performance

Since it is a gaming laptop we installed some 4-5 popular games. Like Forza Horizon, which you can install completely free of cost because of the game pass that you get when you buy this laptop. So, we downloaded Forza Horizon, Destiny 2, Apex Legend, and GTA V.

These games are all nearly 100GB. They used up nearly all the 512GB storage, and only 30-40GB is left. All of these games are around 100GB or more. That’s why our 512GB SSD is almost full with just these 4 games.

That’s why it should have been 1TB. But when you play the games, you get absolute joy. With the 165Hz refresh rate, you get super smooth gaming.

Talking about the fps, then the Forza Horizon continuously uses 70 fps and this game is absolutely graphic intensive.

Not only that, GTA V continuously uses 100-120 fps.

Even in Destiny 2, we found that it uses around 100 fps continuously.

The best thing I liked is that we could play games very well but the thermals were in control. The laptop didn’t overheat. Another good thing, there is a shortcut ‘Fn + Q’. You can adjust the fan speed using this shortcut.

So, if you think it is getting a little too hot and you want to increase the fan’s speed, you can do it with just ‘Fn + Q’. By the way, Lenovo calls it ’Coldfront 3.0’, the cooling mechanism.

The vents are on the side as well as on the back. The inlets are at the bottom, it’s very big. So, Coldfront 3.0 works really well.

Lenovo Legion 5 Gaming Dashboard

By the way, you also get a dashboard that Lenovo calls its ‘Vantage’ where you can act fast charging, CPU overclocking, or which cooling you want, etc. Slowly, laptops are also getting AI. This laptop has one, too.

Essentially, it is used to keep the frame-rate consistent throughout gaming. By the way, due to the AMD Ryzen 5000 series processor, you can easily play ‘AAA’ games on this laptop.

Lenovo Legion 5 Keyboard

I didn’t talk about the keyboard till now but you get a back-lit keyboard which is good. But if you buy the Pro variant, you get a 4-zone RGB keyboard just to give you more of a gaming vibe.

And like I said before, the ports are at the back. The cables on the side look bad as well as get in the way of gaming but not when you have the ports at the back. And I like that very much.

In gaming as well as in multimedia consumption, audio & speaker quality is very much important. This laptop has Nahimic audio which gives you a nice & immersive audio experience. Overall, even for multimedia consumption, I’ll give a thumbs up.

But there are 1-2 things which I think could have been better. For example, if there was DDR5 RAM, it would be good. If there was 1TB of storage, it would be good since it’s a gaming laptop.

So, these 1-2 things could have been better but, other than that, I like this gaming laptop. What stands out for me is the display and these backports and the thermals, that ‘Cold front 3.0’. These three things really stand out.

Lenovo Legion 5 Connectivity

For connectivity, you get Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth 5.1. There is a fast charging of 300W charging. And you get 5-6Hours backup and a 5 Hour backup when you’re doing something intensive. So, battery life is also quite good.

I’m saying 5 hours but Lenovo actually claims 8 hours. If you’re doing light work, then in ideal conditions you get 8 hours of backup.
